Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson stated he came dangerously close to a potentially fatal accident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two marshals ran across the track directly in front of him

The concerning event happened on the third rotation when safety workers were spotted on the track as Lawson was rejoining the race following an premature pit stop to change his compromised front wing

Competitor's Live Reaction

Moments later, Racing Bulls driver Lawson radioed to his pit wall engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you just see that? I could have... killed them"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was observing"

"I rejoined with a new set of hards, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two individuals sprinting across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Clearly there's been a communication breakdown somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a live track marshals can be authorized to just run across the track like that. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm certain we'll get some kind of clarification, but this must never be repeated"

Governing Body Reviewing

F1's overseeing organization, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is actively examining the circumstances

"After an occurrence at turn one, track officials was notified that fragments were located on the track at the critical section of that bend" stated the governing body

"On lap three, marshals were informed and made ready to access the circuit and clear the fragments once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had entered the pits, the instructions to dispatch personnel were rescinded and a double yellow flag was shown in that area"

"The examination is ongoing what happened after that point"
