Former NFL Star Antonio Brown Files Not Guilty Response in Attempted Murder Trial

One-time National Football League wide receiver Antonio Brown is heading to Miami to address an attempted murder charge stemming from a shooting that happened in May, with his counsel filing a not guilty response on his behalf.

Detention logs in Essex County, New Jersey, show that Brown was released on Tuesday morning for his move to the state of Florida. Brown, one of the most popular figures in the NFL, had forgone extradition to Florida from New Jersey, where he was taken after being taken into custody in Dubai.

Brown’s counsel, Mark Eiglarsh, mentioned in an message that he has already filed a formal innocent declaration to the murder attempt allegation. Brown could be in a Miami court as soon as Wednesday early for a bail proceeding, Eiglarsh stated.

According to his arrest warrant, Brown is accused of grabbing a pistol from a safety employee after a celebrity boxing contest in May and discharging two shots at a person he had clashed with before. The claimed individual, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, informed police that a bullet scraped his throat.

Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was merely defending himself from Nantambu.

“The measures he was obliged to take were purely in self-defense against the claimed victim’s violent actions. Brown was targeted that evening and behaved within his rightful privilege to protect himself,” Eiglarsh commented.

Brown was not right away detained because originally officers did not recognize Nantambu as a target. It not until afterward in May that Nantambu provided a detailed testimony about the situation to police and identified Brown as the shooter, the affidavit indicates.

From his digital content, Brown had been residing in the city of Dubai for multiple period. In a message after the incident, Brown stated he was defending himself because he was “assaulted by numerous individuals who attempted to steal my valuables and cause bodily damage to me.”

A level two attempted murder charge in the state of Florida carries a highest 15-year prison term and up to a ten thousand dollar fine in the instance of a finding.

Brown has dealt with numerous judicial challenges over the time. He previously had been charged of assault of a truck operator, multiple domestic violence accusations, neglect to pay family payments and other incidents.

During a 2021 contest with his team against the Jets, Brown stripped off his shirt, shoulder pads and gloves and ran off the stadium, causing his dismissal by the franchise and practically concluding his NFL tenure.

Brown, who spent 12 years in the NFL, was an All-Pro player who passed the majority of his time with the Steelers. For his career, Brown had 928 receptions for over 12,291 distance, the twenty-eighth highest of history. He was a multiple-time all-star pick.
