One 14-year-old boy was discovered deceased just days following being wrongly blamed of taking the ashes of a deceased infant during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Discovery

The young boy's mother and father found his body in his room at his Flintshire residence on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Allegations Begin

The inquest learned how his parent got a message on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual asking if her son was her offspring. The communication stated: "Tell him thanks for breaking into my apartment."

In a statement presented to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the media, claiming her baby's remains had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was untrue.

Police Inquiry

An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the alleged break-in victim had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that the items was never stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed stolen ashes attracted online responses, and although Kai was not named in the messages, his mother said individuals "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she said.

Mental Health Impact

She added that her son had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' views really were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she commented, "particularly when this was untrue".

Kai was arrested at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a law enforcement facility and later released pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the hearing heard, but had failed to contacted the relatives by the moment of his death.

Withdrawal and Worry

His mother said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like days".

When she talked to him about the supposed burglary, she said her child told her he had entered the house because the resident who lived there had said he could use the toilet whenever he wanted, but refuted taking anything.

Digital Harassment

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed digitally after the allegations.

The inquest learned that one young adult encouraged Kai to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he died, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, loving" boy, and said her "relatives is totally shattered".

He had been "clearly hiding his worries", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

Educational Reaction

The inquest heard from educational personnel at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On 8 November, she "heard some students talking that Kai had been detained and that was the first I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the discussion, the staff member said she rang the family's family telephone and provided a message saying she had spoken to the student about the accusations.

The court heard his parents said they never receive that communication.

Formal Finding

Senior coroner informed the hearing he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to handling suspects with the condition, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a narrative conclusion, he said: "Around 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against the teenager, a young individual.

"Probably falsehoods were afterwards embellished and amplified through the platform of social media.

"During 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and after his questioning he was freed while inquiries proceeded."

The official determined: "There is no evidence that the actions or failures of any agency caused or added to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted action it is not possible to discern his purpose."
